Most of you know by now that I have two blogs: this one and another that focuses on thrift store shopping, restaurants, fun places to shop online and a little wardrobe remixing thrown in there.

I'm excited to announce that "A Life Fulfilled: Atlanta" is now Savvy in the City. You can access the new blog by visiting or

Even more exciting is the fact that is giving away a $100 gift certificate to one of my readers! Check out all the details here, and if you were a reader of my other blog before, remember to update your bookmarks!

Home Makeover: Exterior Edition

Now I have my sights set on an exterior makeover.

While we know it will be a while (as we have some other, less-glamorous projects to work on — such as improving drainage in the yard), it's fun to think about how to change and improve the outside look of our home. Currently we have red brick, cream/yellow trim and hunter/kelly green shutters. This look has got to go!

Now. Also note how we have a mix of materials: some brick, some siding, etc. Around back (the exterior of the walk-out basement) is a stucco/cement type mixture. Of course the current landscaping (or lack thereof) also leaves something to be desired...

Better Homes and Gardens' Web Site has a neat tool called "Color-a-Home." While you can't upload a photo of your house, you can choose a house like yours and switch out the trim, door, brick/trim, roof and shutter colors.

In my dreams. ahhhh....

Wow. Isn't that better?

Another reason I love our realtors!

This helpful reminder about applying for Homestead Exemption from Lesley (of The Peters Company). They are on top of things, despite us not being active buyers/sellers at the moment:

Dearest Clients,

Happy New Year! Thank you so much for leaning on The Peters Company in 2010 for all of your real estate needs! And, welcome to 2011!

With the start of the New Year, it’s never too early to begin thinking about tax season. As you know, buying a home can be a huge tax advantage, so I want to be sure that as a homeowner you know you may be eligible for a Homestead Exemption.

Georgia allows homeowners to claim a Homestead Exemption as a tax benefit that could amount to considerable annual savings. To qualify for the property tax exemption the Homeowner must occupy the residence and file for Homestead Exemption at the county Court House or Tax Commissioner’s Office in person, by mail or on the web, depending on the county in which you reside. Filing deadlines and requirements vary by county.

For your convenience, I have attached below the contact information of most major Atlanta county Tax Commissioner offices, so that you may file for exemption.

At The Peters Company, Andy and I consider providing these types of value-added services to be both an honor and a privilege. We thank you for allowing us to serve your home-investment needs. If you know anyone that is interested in buying or refinancing, now is the time! Property prices are a bargain and rates are STILL at an all time low although they are slowly rising.
